WORKSHOPS & events

I develop tailor-made workshops & events for organisations and groups

Somasense workshops, wellness events and presentations are fully tailored to your needs.

My approach to wellbeing is holistic and integrated touching on all eight dimensions of wellbeing namely - physical, mental, emotional, social, purpose, environmental, financial and occupational or one topic in particular.

The emphasis is always on empowering people with simple, sustainable self-care skills to improve their quality of life despite negative life challenges.

Popular themes include:
  • Workplace wellbeing as a business objective
  • Creating a  individualised self-care strategy
  • How to weave self-care into your daily life without adding to your to-do list or breaking the bank
  • Stress management techniques
  • Learning and maintaining good posture for clarity of mind
  • Self-awareness for self-care
  • Making it a habit to learn good habits
  • Professional wellbeing and its link with professional conduct and ethical decision-making.

You will leave this workshop understanding the importance of workplace wellbeing, how to turn good intentions into workplace wellbeing plans of action with measurable outcomes and how to integrate it into your business strategy.
Corporate and big businesses are well aware of the importance of workplace wellbeing.
However solopreneurs and micro enterprises seldom actively invest in formal workplace well-being programmes.
It is not as if you don’t care about your own and your employees’ wellbeing, but life happens and before we know it another year has passed and we have still not paid attention to implementing a wellbeing strategy.
Yet it is precisely these small and micro businesses that need to pay attention to owner and employee wellbeing for a number of reasons.

 Workplace wellbeing:
  •  is the one resources without which the company, in particular solopreneurs, cannot survive
  • influences the bottom-line by decreasing absenteeism and health costs
  • increases engagement, job satisfaction and productivity
  • reduces employee turnover and
  • improves company culture.
Yet  SMMEs neglect to invest in workplace wellbeing programmes because we:
  • get caught up in the day-to-day activities and just do not get round to doing it
  • cannot afford the customised workplace wellness products developed by big agencies
  • don’t think of including workplace wellbeing as an objective in the business strategy.

The intention of every hairdresser and beauty therapist ever,  is to:
  • make their clients look beautiful
  • help them feel better about themselves
  • improve their overall wellbeing.
But this  does not come without a price.
Both hairdressing and beauty therapy are demanding jobs for the stylist and therapists as well as everyone else on the salon / spa team.
To achieve their maximum potential as employees and to experience life joyfully, salon staff have to also look after themselves and develop simple, sustainable wellbeing practices.
Investing in workplace wellbeing makes it possible for each team member to contribute their particular value set to the business.
And because your salon has its own particular demands, the workshop or talk is fine-tuned to your needs.
Tell me how I can help you and your salon staff  to develop simple, sustainable self-care strategies that will help  achieve personal and business goals.

Teachers care. Teachers care a lot.
  • Teachers care for students.
  • They care for their colleagues.
  • They care for their professions.
  • They care for the community.
They feel love for them, are concerned about them, pay attention to them, support them and provide for their needs.
Teachers care .... except when they do not.
For all the caring they do, there is one person that is often neglected by the teacher - themselves. Busy days at school and personal obligations leave little time and energy for self-care. And self-care costs money.
Or that is what we have come to believe from how health and wellness are depicted in the media. Self-care, we are told,  equals massage, me-time at a spas,  weekends away and gym  membership.

Which makes no (Soma)sense at all!
If care means to love, support and attend to another's needs, then self-care is not:
  •  self-indulgence
  • spoiling oneself
  • yet another task added to your to-do list.
Self-care means taking an active role in enhancing and protecting our own wellbeing.
You will leave this workshop knowing how to weave simple, cost-effective and sustainable self-care habits into your life which will support you personally and professionally and contribute to the overall wellbeing of the school.

Stress has a bad reputation. We are told to strive for a stress-free life.
But really stress, is not the baddie it is made out to be. We all experience stress as a response to stimuli but if it overwhelms us and the stressful situation lasts a long time, we get stressed out.
Prolonged stress is the real problem and to survive and thrive we need a healthy level of stress in our lives.
This workshop looks at:
  • the difference between responding to stress and being stressed out
  • the fight-or-flight response and the way men react to stressful situations
  • the tend and befriend response and the way women use this strategy to respond to stress
  • our personal approach to stressful situations
  • practical ways in which to modify our attitudes and behaviour in stressful situations towards improved wellbeing.

For any professional in any field, our occupation is as much what we do as who we are.
It is also closely related to our attitude to our chosen career:
  • How good do we feel about our work?
  • Do we like what we do every day beyond how much money we earn?
  • Are we experiencing career satisfaction?
  • Does the job contribute to my life satisfaction?
This workshop helps you evaluate how practising your profession is influenced by:
  • levels of energy, physically and mentally
  • how engaged and absorbed we are in what we are doing
  • how it enriches our social relationships
  • whether it gives meaning, a feeling of fulfillment and accomplishment
  • how congruent it is with our values, goals and lifestyle
  • what difference it makes in our own and others’ lives
  • how the working environment shapes and is shaped by our levels of wellbeing.
